MSC Jay feat Rell – ‘Take You There’

Saint Helena Island in South Carolina has a population of slightly more than 8000 people. Growing up, MSC Jay therefore had to find hobbies to occupy his time, and these always centred around music and sports. When he wasn’t on the field or the ball courts, he was writing raps, and taking on any feedback he got. MSC Jay used constructive criticism to hone his lyrical format and musical style, and actively studied his rap influences, became a businessman, and never gave up.

MSC Jay is a rural boy at heart, and always shines a light on his hometown. He coined the genre, ‘Country-Geechie Culture’, on his latest project, ‘Geechie Gospel’, a personal brand of music that illustrates a backroad perspective. His distinct southern dialect and radical metaphors and punchlines illuminate the life he lived, on the dirt roads. With a mix of chill and smooth songs with a few club tracks dusted into ‘Geechie Gospel’, MSC Jay is carving his own path and uniquely redefining the reality of rap.

The music video for ‘Take You There’ is set at a party. Girls walk in, and ignore the advances of every other man until MSC Jay enters. He catches their eyes instantly. The added feature of neon laser outlines emphasizes the excitement and hype of the people and the party.

Rell, from Roc-a-Fella Records supports ‘Take You There’ with his RnB approach. There’s a summertime influence to the song; energetic bass-heavy, the track has a mid-eighties tone. MSC Jay bought three beats from producer, Mr. Hanky, and built on it with Rell, perfectly representing the “Geechie Gullah” culture and their exclusive expression.
