Jon Patrick Walker – ‘Like A Rose’

You’ll remember our previous piece on Jon Patrick Walker, the actor and singer, who’s just finished a run of the musical, ‘Hamilton’, which saw him performing the role of King George III. Not one to rest on his laurels, Walker returns with the gorgeous song, ‘Like A Rose’, which comes from his upcoming album, ‘Welcome To The Edge Times’, set for release on October 25.

Jon Patrick Walker has been a highly respected master of his art for 25 years, appearing on Broadway, on television, and film. It was only recently however that he made the leap from musicals to songwriting, and he released his debut album, ‘The Guilty Party’, in 2013, followed by ‘People Going Somewhere’, in 2016, and his 2018 EP, ‘You And I’, the latter two of which were met with excellent reviews.

‘Welcome To The Edge Times’ is a compendium of songs written and recorded by Walker while on the road touring with ‘Hamilton’, as well as in places he’s lived over the past few years, such as London, LA, and New York. The tracks are in real singer-songwriter style and make you wonder why it took so long for him to realise that this is an area where his talents lay; sure he’s been singing on stage, but the pure emotion he puts into his own compositions, such as the very Nilsson-like ‘Like A Rose’, could just as easily have come from – well, Nilsson himself, or the likes of seminal Irish artist Glen Hansard. There’s also an almost 60s vibe to the track which calls to mind the likes of The Byrds, and, even early Beatles, or The Who. What there’s absolutely no doubt about is that Walker is a formidable talent.

‘Welcome To The Edge Times’ is set for release on October 25. You can find out more about Jon Patrick Walker online on his official website, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
