Bencoolen – ‘Beautiful Escape’ (Tom Misch cover)

Washington DCs Bencoolen have a distinct funk-soul sound that sets them apart from the rest of the artists in the burgeoning music scene in the US national capitol. Describing their sound as “maximalist rock”, their latest single, a cover of Tom Misch’s song, ‘Beautiful Escape’, is out now.

Bencoolen’s music will feel instantly familiar to lovers of 70s and 80s rock and soul, and the five members of the group contribute equally to the sound, with guitar, drums, bass, and sax all sharing the space, interlocking, calling and responding, making their presence felt. It should come as no surprise that their live performance is exciting and an almost incomparable experience.

The video for ‘Beautiful Escape’ was shot at the Ivakota recording studios, and is just bare bones and no frills, ensuring we’re not distracted by anything, and focus purely on the sound – the powerful vocals, and exquisitely talented musical performance.
