Belle VEX – ‘Cool’

We’ve written about Belle VEX many many times over the past few years, the charismatic singer songwriter from New England winning fans over with his songs, ‘Famous’, ‘Make It Good For Her’, and ‘Something New’. He now returns with his new single, ‘Cool’, which describes not just the song, but also the young electro-pop singer himself.

‘Cool’ is a summer party anthem, with a music video which sees the artist being interviewed on a talk show. There’s two co-stars in the clip; one is a beautiful young woman, and the other is an unctuous talk show host. Both get plenty of screen time, but we only see Belle VEX with the tv personality – for whatever reason the girl is out of reach. Belle VEX has followed his path, he goes through the Boston streets hounded by autograph hunters, he laughs it up on TV. The two halves of his life diverge – the beautiful young woman grows more and more distant. It’s a critique of the chase for fame – showing that no matter how subtly, we are all wanting those 15 minutes, and sometimes we don’t care who gets hurt along the way – even if it’s ourselves.
