Que 9 – ‘Be Long’

Still only 15, Quarrion “Que 9” Phillips has already proven to be a fantastic rapper, with over 32 million hits on his YouTube alone, as well as a dance craze, the #QueSplashChallenge. Taking his inspiration from East Coast rapper Nas, Que 9 took up rap when he was 4, and uses his music to advocate for a better, safer, Detroit – his home town. His latest single, ‘Be Long’, shows him admitting that chasing success can be hard.

Signed to Detroit label, BMB Records, Que 9 talks about how it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, going too fast, and acting impulsively. He hasn’t allowed the chase to take him off his path to success however, and in a couple of fast verses he shows that despite his huge workload and fast pace of life, he’s still on his way to becoming the next big thing.

aThe video for ‘Be Long’ shows Que 9 trapped in a room, surrounded by graffiti, with the words clouding his thoughts. He feels the pressure of all his responsibilities, and it’s all he can do to maintain his composure, as he speed raps what he thinks about hip hop, and the influence it’s had on his life. Lights flash from red to white, and we see what it’s like to be Que 9, and realise that although it’s been tough, his hustle has required a lot of strength and optimism – which he’s risen to.
