In conversation with Malvika Padin, Max George reveals more about his summer release ‘Better On Me’, the evolution of his sound and what question he wish he was asked in interviews.
What is the inspiration/message behind ‘Better On Me’?
It was a bit of a tongue in cheek idea about a person you have been with being at their best when they are with you and vice versa. Having a connection that will always be there.
Would you say your music is based on personal experiences or do you take creative liberties with it?
I think there are always some aspects of personal experience involved. Sometimes it’s more obvious but being in a song like this it’s probably better being discreet.
How has your sound evolved over time?
I think it happens naturally with growing up and having new experiences. In terms of musically, I think I’ve tried to experiment with different ways in which I use my voice. I think ‘Better On Me’ is heavier on falsetto than a lot of my other songs.
Who inspires or influences you both professionally and on a personal level?
I’d have to say, my dad. He’s my manager now but has been there with me since day one. He also helps with the creative side too which is awesome.
If listeners could take away one message from your music what would you want that to be?
Life’s too short not to play hard too.
What has been the most memorable moment in your career so far? What’s next for you?
Probably when The Wanted has our first number One. It came out of nowhere. We were in complete shock and there were a lot of tears shed that day. Next is ‘Better On Me’, followed by more music. I’ve been lucky enough to work with some amazing Producers and writers over the last few years and I can’t wait to put it all out there. I’ll be busy over the summer doing shows too which I’m really excited for.
What’s one question no one asks in an interview you wish you were asked?
What a great question! It would probably be… ‘if any question could never be asked again what would it be?’
