John Roberts – ‘Looking’

The video for John Roberts’ latest single, ‘Looking’ is one which will send you straight back to the days when MTV was actually about music.

Saturated colours, tight clothes, plenty of neon – and LOTS of cowbell – ‘Looking’ is a funky, sexy, vibrant new-wave track, which pulls you in from the start and doesn’t want to let you go…but that’s fine, because we aren’t going anywhere.

Outside of music, John Roberts voices the character of Linda Belcher, from the long-running FOX animated series, ‘Bob’s Burgers’, and has made Linda one of the most beloved characters on TV. He’s been nominated for an Emmy because of Linda; but that’s just one memorable aspect of his life – he’s also had the pleasure of collaborating with Blondie, singing with Debbie Harry on ‘Love Level’, from Blondie’s 2017 album, ‘Pollinator’.

‘Looking’ is lighthearted, even over-the-top, and reflects Roberts’ love of 80s pop, punk, and new wave.

Director Ned Stresen-Reuter understands the exact aesthetic Roberts is wanting to achieve, and ‘Looking’ features vintage video effects, fluorescent lights, and even a few mannequins with illuminated headgear, a la Yazoo’s ‘Upstairs At Eric’s’. It’s period perfect: John’s wraparound shades, push-button telephone, the patches on his studded leather jacket, even his dance steps. It’s a gorgeous homage to a glorious era.
