Orla Gartland Shares New Single And Video ‘Flatline’ And Announces ‘Why Am I Like This?’ EP

Following on from the success of her previous single, ‘Why Am I Like This?’, Orla Gartland today released her new track, ‘Flatline’, accompanied by a music video. Both singles precede the release of her new EP, ‘Why Am I Like This?’ set for May 24.

‘Flatline’ looks likely to continue in the same success as ‘Why Am I Like This?’ which has so far garnered over a million Spotify streams, and is Gartland’s most popular track to date. ‘Flatline’ is sure to secure her growing reputation for confessionary songwriting, which has already seen her compared to Stevie Nicks, Regina Spektor, and St Vincent.

Describing ‘Flatline’, Gartland said,

“A song about giving everything to a friendship and getting nothing back. I’m a fiercely loyal person, often to my detriment – I’ll do everything I can to keep someone happy, but often turn a blind eye to the reality that they wouldn’t do the same for me.”

‘Flatline’ sees Gartland return to her previous pop sound, with their relatable and often melancholy, deeply introspective lyrics, juxtaposed alongside colourful, multi-layered indie pop melodies.

The rest of the songs on the four track EP are likewise inward facing, written over the previous four years in which Dublin-native Gartland has lived in London. She explains,

“Each of these songs explores something I’ve learnt about myself in my late teens/early twenties – these super turbulent, super formative years.”

Prior to ‘Flatline’, and February’s release of ‘Why Am I Like This?’, Orla’s previous singles last year were ‘I Go Crazy’, and ‘Between My Teeth’, and have raised her plenty of support from the likes of tastemakers such as Line Of Best Fit, Pop Justice, and The 405. Orla Gartland’s music has seen over 8 million streams on Spotify alone, while she has more than 180 thousand YouTube subscribers, and a loyal social media following.
‘Flatline’ was written and produced by Gartland in collaboration with James Flannigan, and mixed and mastered by Gethin Pearson, and Robin Schmidt, respectively.
