C’Marie – ‘Be Nice’

Born in Illinois and raised in California, Carly Marie Masten, who performs as C’Marie, is a singer, songwriter, and dancer. She started dancing at the age of 2, winning many national championships and dance scholarships from major dance conventions. C’Marie has worked with choreographers such as Dave Scott, and danced in music videos for the likes of Mindless Behaviour, Brian Freedman, and Cris Judd. She’s also appeared on TV, performing on Ellen, X Factor, and various programmes on Nickelodeon.

When C’Marie moved to LA however, she decided to focus on developing her music and singing career. She’d been singing concurrent to her dance, starting at 12 when she joined Ace Young’s girl group, Code 5, who later changed their name to Paperdolzz, who performed the National Anthem at basketball games for the Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, and UCLA.

In her solo career, C’Marie has sung in venues across LA, and has recorded covers, and written and produced her own songs. Rihanna has been a major influence on her style, and her covers have included songs by Rihanna, as well as SZA. One of her songs, written and produced by Harvey Mason and J. Que Smith, featured Ty Dolla $ign.

C’Marie has recently created an album with A1. It was initially meant to be an EP, but once they’d recorded five songs they decided they could work it up to an album. Her new single, ‘Be Nice’, was written by A1, and is a story about finding someone that’s nice to you so you can give that back. The clip was shot in Seattle, rather than C’Marie’s home of Los Angeles, and was directed by BenMarc. The clip is laid back and relatable, focusing on C’Marie and her love interest, just having a nice time hanging out together, and – being nice. It’s got a chill pop vibe, and the clip is a showcase of all that Seattle has to offer, including the world famous Gum Wall, situated downtown, next to Pike Place Market.
