Back in December 2017 we introduced readers to Houston hip hop and RnB star, Imaní Scott, with her single, ‘Throwing Glitter‘. Throw forward more than a year and the firebrand with the electric blue tresses is back with her latest single, ‘Lost Yo Mind’: soulful, sexy, and completely badass.
“Lost Yo Mind’ is not a song from someone pining for their lover to come back. Instead it’s a two fingers up to the fool who messed her around. In Imaní’s own words, she “done really ran out of fucks to give”. She’s not wasting another moment worrying about him – there’s millions of other men out there – but only just one of her.
The video is Imaní at her sassiest, she’s having a bad bitch moment in front of the mirror, with her vocals – influenced by the likes of Etta James, Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill, even Anita Baker – shooting between playful and vengeful. Imaní struts her stuff with her backup dancers, and stares down the camera, making the viewer glad she’s not talking to them. Directed by Houston’s MPRS Media, it’s a slow, sensual burn, with a fiery end and a quick getway.
