‘Bubbling’, by experimental artist Christos, is the latest track to be taken from his debut EP, ‘Teargas’. It was released on March 6, and is available on all major digital platforms.
The single is accompanied by a stunning video, which showcases Christos as being more than just a singer, but also as having true star quality. The clip was inspired by the edgy cinema classic, ‘Run Lola Run’, with Christos emulating Lola’s aesthetic with his vibrant red hair, and covering the same central themes as the movie.
The synth heavy, electro pop track, examines subjects such as world catastrophe, loss of hope, and impending doom. It’s a sonic experience, with the vocals seemingly at odds with the instrumentals, but somehow uniting with help of the music video. Effectively, the entire piece becomes an avant-garde art creation, with a distinct dystopian feel.
The video was shot in Athens, Greece, and gives a local’s view of the city, including many recognisable features of the city, such as the Acropolis, the hills which surround Athens, and more homely aspects, such as the rooftop of a traditional post-war apartment, complete with plastic chairs.
Christos uses the title to illustrate insularity and the return to the womb, visualising this by taking to the water in a Zorb ball. Although the song maintains a central message of hopelessness, there is still that desire to escape and start anew, which is displayed throughout.
