Lucas Ray Exp – ‘SPHINX’

We’ve met Lucas Ray Exp before with his recent video for his song, ‘Reveries‘. Now he returns with the follow-up, ‘SPHINX’, where he shows that words can cut right to the core.

‘SPHINX’ is the title track from Lucas Ray’s debut EP, and is a great collection of songs which capture his greatest influences, whch include fantastically talented guitarists, as well as brilliant rock, and metal, composers. Lucas Ray Exp’s upbringing undoubtedly also played a part in his music, being born in São Luis, Brazil, and raised all over the US. He is without a doubt, prog rock in genre, but ‘SPHINX’ nonetheless demonstrates his influences.

The intro to the song has an orchestral vibe, but once the vocals arrive, it’s heavy metal from there on in. In the video we see Lucas behind the microphone in this track, singing as well as playing guitar, and colours and settings change behind him. There is an ethereal being behind him, trying to break free, but never succeeding. Once he reaches the bridge of the song, Lucas takes off his guitar and starts rapping – altogether making it clear that his sound is unique to him.
