The Essential Advent Calendar: December 8 – Broke Royals Have The ‘Christmas Cookie Blues’

It’s been a big year for Broke Royals and to commemorate it they have given their fans another great release. This time it’s the seasonally appropriate ‘Christmas Cookie Blues’, an emotionally charged holiday anthem about lost love, told from the perspective of a young man trying to keep it all together long enough to get through a Christmas cookie swap.

‘Christmas Cookie Blues’ is the follow up to ‘Bad Chemicals‘, and sees Philip Basnight and Colin Cross using their soaring pop-rock songwriting and deft production talents to their fullest. Of course, it comes with an equally awesome video, directed by Tyler Scheerschmidt. The scene opens with a plate of cookies, conjuring up childhood memories. The band is dressed in their finest, playing drums, guitar, and singing, in front of the Christmas tree, with the open fire burning, before flashing to the kitchen and a Christmas cookie exchange. Preparing the dough they remember the great times with a former lover, by way of bittersweet lyrics and playful poses – and of course lots of cookie eating!
