Nick Andre ft. the Gift Of Gab, Lateef The Truthspeaker, And E da Boss – ‘Turn Back’

San Francisco based music producer, and co-founder of Slept On Records, Nick Andre has been producing music for the past decade and a half, and has worked with the likes of Gift Of Gab, Lateef The Truth Speaker (both of whom feature on this single), Bicasso, of Living Legends, Zion I, and many many more. His latest release is the song, ‘Turn Back’, which was released on November 30.

The fast paced track also features, among others, his friend Eric, aka E da Boss, with whom he started Slept On Records. The label was initially started as a vehicle by which to release music they were making with their friends, and they released a series of 12 and 7 inch records, featuring Gift of Gab, Lyrics Born, Bicasso, and others.

Speaking of the label, Andre says,

“We then both got signed to different labels, E went to Stones Throw and I did a record with MUSH. We held on to the label and were able to keep our distribution and have used it as a outlet to be able to release our music on our terms and keep total control.”

About the track, he adds,

“The idea for this track came together earlier this year while working on production for the new Gift Of Gab (Blackalicious) album and having just recently finished production on a project for Lateef (Latyrx) The Truth Speaker. I really wanted to hear them both on this track together but it didn’t fit either one of the current projects they were working on. After sharing the track with them they both came over and wrote together in a afternoon at my house. After sitting with what we did that day I decided to reach out to Eric Boss aka E Da Boss from Myron and E (Stones Throw) and The Pendletons who was in London at the time to add some soul vocals over the hook. After a little tweaking and having Lateef back over to add to the chorus ‘Turn Back’ was born.”

‘Turn Back’ is an exciting and energetic tune, punctuated with bongo drums, off set by the frenetic vocals, each singer taking his turn with equal pace and style. It’s a politically charged song, suggesting that we can’t turn back time, we’ve set the wheels in motion and can’t stop it – it’s not entirely hopeless however, as with this song awareness is raised of the seemingly endless cycle of doom.
