Anastasia Elliot – ‘The Boy Who Cried Love’

Anastasia Elliot used to be stuck in a virtual artistic limbo, trapped in a major label deal, and unable to express herself as she wanted to. Thankfully she’s managed to extract herself from the situation, and is now the daring indie artist she’s always wanted to be.

Anastasia’s latest single, ‘The Boy Who Cried Love’ is just her voice and a piano, and her naked emotion. It is a pure breakup song, and it’s clear why no major label wanted it – she’s not safe; she’s not mediocre; she’s incredible – but dangerous.

Working with accomplished video director, Ryan Hamblin, Anastasia has been able to realise her vision. Best known for his work with country artists such as Hunter Hayes, Jerrod Niemann, and Chris Young, among others, he’s an experimentalist like Anastasia, and come up against it from time to time working in an industry that doesn’t always reward those who take risks. With Anastasia Elliot though, he’s had none of those restrictions, and was able to let his imagination run wild.

In the video for ‘The Boy Who Cried Love’ we see Elliot seated at a white piano that looks as if it’s been dismantled; exposed strings hanging like spiderwebs in front of her, while candles drip red wa down the sides. She too is a tangled web of threads in human form, with long strips of black fabric cascading around her. They wrap themselves around the body of a blindfolded man, having as you could probably imagine, lethal consequences.
