Jimmy D. Scott – ‘Shakey Ground’

Jimmy D Scott certainly loves Detroit so much so that locals say that’s what the D stands for in his name. But it goes both ways, and Detroit loves Jimmy as well.

Born in Mississippi, Jimmy’s adopted home town has thrust its roots deep down into his music: it’s funky and soulful, and oozing with gospel and vintage R&B that the Motor City is known for.

‘Shakey Ground’ is Jimmy D’s interpretation of the same song by The Temptations, themselves from Detroit, who took it to the top of the Hot Soul Singles Chart in 1975. It’s also been covered by Phoebe Snow, Etta James, Fishbone, Delbert McClinton, and many many more. It’s a great song with plenty of room for even more versions.
