Rozie – ‘Lil Longer’

Canadian singer songwriter Rozie’s passion for music began at a very early age, when she begged her parents for piano lessons, eventually gaining her certification from the Royal Conservatory. Soon after, at the age of 13, she signed up for and won a local singing competition. The dream was planted: she continued competing as a vocalist, and signed with a local label three years later, eventually putting out her first album at the age of 20.

Rosie, from Vancouver, British Columbia, has continued to keep developing her music and her style, and started working with producer Waspy, from Dirty Radio, with whom she discovered an affinity.

Rozie’s music is her own style, but she admits she subconsciously draws influence from the likes of Erykah Badu, Tom Misch, SZA, The Internet, Sade, and Alicia Keys, blending their various sounds together in order to put a brand new spin on them.

‘Lil Longer’, her most recent release, is an upbeat track which is reminiscent of early Whitney Houston. It’s a light and refreshing song, with a certain playful innocence to it that’s quite appealing. Speaking to CelebMix about the track, Rozie said,

“This song started out as just a simple beat that Waspy made off the cuff. Originally when I heard it, I wasn’t sure the two-step vibe would fit my project but when Danny McKinnon jammed on the record and I knew it could it was going to be something special. I love the simplicity of the beat and the fact that there are only a few lyrics”.
