Scarlet Sails – ‘Hideaway’

At the age of 21, Russian-born singer Olya Viglione left for New York, set on following her dreams. She found herself on the Lower East side, playing keyboards, and touring with Jesse Malin, where she found herself sharing the stage with the likes of Urge Overkill, Clem Burke (Blondie), and Wayne Kramer. One night at The Bowery, she met Brian Viglione, one half of The Dresden Dolls, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Brian was what Olya needed to bring her songs to life – and with the addition of Mark Kohut on guitar, and Kevin Jones on bass, the four of them formed Scarlet Sails. The name comes from a 1923 adventure novel by Alexander Grin, which tells the tale of a young girl, dreaming of a prince sailing under scarlet sails to take her away. The story, a childhood favourite of Olya’s, and essentially tells her story.

Scarlet Sails released their debut album, ‘Future From The Past’, in 2017. They promoted the album with three national tours, and a New Year’s Eve performance in Moscow. ‘Hideaway’ is the first release in a series of singles produced by Ben Rice, which they plan to release throughout 2018. The video for ‘Hideaway’ showcases Scarlet Sails’ artistic and theatrical style, as they follow Olya in search of her ‘Hideaway’ through a Victorian house, whereupon she finds what she’s been looking for.
