Butta B-Rocka – ‘The Storm’

At the age of 13 Oleathia Robinson – now known as Butta B-Rocka – started performing in talent shows in her hometown of Tampa, Florida. Two years later she started making regular trips to Atlanta to work with Bobby Brown Camp, Usher, and Akon. Her mother, working as her manager, pushed her to pursue a solo career, and eventually she agreed. After several setbacks, including a car accident which caused her to put two record deals on hold, she released her first album, formed a band, and started touring nationally and internationally. Her latest track is ‘The Storm’.

Nicknamed “Butta” back in Tampa because of her smooth vocals, she gained “B-Rocka” while in the studio providing demo backing vocals for TLC. She joined the two names in 2010 and released her first album, ‘Switch Lanes’, a pop and soft-rock record influenced by Rihanna. Nowadays Butta B-Rocka is focusing more on R&B, with her inspirations the likes of Chrisette Michelle, and Sza.

‘The Storm’ takes its inspiration from the story of a friend of Butta’s. She says,

“The song is about if the shoe was on the other foot – some men cheat and they come home and act like nothing’s happened, they expect the wife to still be there even if she finds out; but when the situation turns and the woman cheats – can you weather the storm?”

It’s accompanied by a video filled with shots of Butta singing lit in moody blues and violets, and shows a woman finding lipstick on the collar of her husband’s shirt and a hotel room key with a note from another woman. She decides what’s good for the gander is good for the goose, and cheats on her husband in return. Soon however the pair are forced to weather the storm and decide if their love for each other means more than leaving.
