The Soft Spots – ‘Goodbye Again’

Philadelphia indie pop band The Soft Spots have released the video for their latest song, ‘Goodbye Again’. A dreamy wave of synth-rock, the song is the follow-up to ‘Going Soft’.

Formed in 2012 by lead singer-songwriter Shane Gallagher and drummer Dr Deadbeat, The Soft Spots have been gradually been putting together their unique blend of new wave and art rock, and developing their own signature sound. Along the way the duo became four and then five, adding Truong Ta on backing vocals and guitar, Corey Pace on bass, keys and vocal harmonies, then finally Johnny Price joined the group, contributing harmonies, guitar, and synth. ‘Goodbye Again’ is the perfect song for the group, and mixes together each member’s area of expertise.

The video for ‘Goodbye Again’ takes the viewer on a magical journey of nostalgia by way of sci-fi visuals, perfectly capturing the other-worldly nature of the song. The band cites their inspiration as including The Cure, Gary Numan, OMD, and Depeche Mode, and you can certainly hear the influence of these artists.

The video is a colour-saturated feast of grainy visual effects, including double exposure and shimmering lights, while Shane sings about memories of past love:

“I don’t wanna fall in love again. I don’t wanna give it another try”.

The Soft Spots’ debut album, ‘Rainy Daze’, is set for release on March 15, ahead of a tour to promote the LP. It’s available to pre-order on their Bandcamp page. The Soft Spots’ first physical release will be in the form of a VHS tape, ‘Glisten And Glow’, containing music videos from their first two EPs, as well as so far unreleased videos.
