Essential Advent Calendar: Junior Brother Is ‘Hungover At Mass’ With Ode To Drink And The Fear Of God

Junior Brother, real name Ronan Kealy, is an Irish experimental folk singer from County Kerry, but is now based in Dublin. His track, ‘Hungover At Mass’, is behind the 6th door on our Essential Advent Calendar.

Junior Brother’s music is sometimes humorous, sometimes quite heady, with strange stories accompanied by Kealy’s guitar and foot tambourine.

Drawing from his love of language and his upbringing in rural Ireland, Junior Brother has that distinct Irish flavour we’ve come to know and love.

‘Hungover At Mass’ is a fast and furious track with Junior Brother’s lyrics examining the very very Irish dilemma of turning up at Mass after having an absolute blinder the previous evening – and not wanting anyone to know – while giving away just how hungover you really are.

Junior Brother has performed live on Dublin radio stations 98FM and Radio Nova, and his music has been played on Irish national broadcasters, including RTE 2FM and Lyric FM.

Eoghan McDermott, from RTE 2FM says of Junior Brother:

“When I was listening to him – you know when you’re having that thing where you’re ‘I can’t decide if this guy is a genius or if I don’t like it’. And then I settled on ‘No, this guy’s a genius’ “

‘Hungover At Mass’ is available to stream, download and on CD from Bandcamp. Find Junior Brother online on Twitter and Facebook.

Junior Brother will be performing this Saturday, 9th December, as part of the Co-Present Album launch at Drop Dead Twice, Francis Street Dublin. All proceeds from sales of the CD will go to Pieta House, Preventing Suicide and Self Harm.
