Three piece electro art-punk outfit Head Noise hail from the Aberdare/Cardiff region in Wales. Their mini album, ‘Special Effects Improves The Defects’ is out now and is reminscent of The Human League, Sparks, Thomas Dolby, and Erasure.

Head Noise are anything but noise. Their sound takes this reviewer back to her teens where for a short while electro music reigned supreme, and the artists who specialised in the style were actual geniuses. Head Noise take me back to the 70s and 80s with their keytar, drum machine, and other unusual instruments. Claiming to make “Awkward Pop for a jilted generation”, they’ve supported Wolf Alice last August, and prior to this mini album, which came out last month, they have released two self-funded EPs.

It’s pretty clear from the outset what their influences are: ranging from Devo, The Human League, Sparks and Beck, they combine electro pop sounds with fun and catchy lyrics. The mini-album contains 6 songs, with our favourite (and it was a hard choice) being the very up-tempo ‘The Man With The Rubber Head’, which reminded us most of Devo.

‘Special Effects Improves The Defects’ is available as a CD or digital download from Bandcamp, and will appeal to fans of all musical genres, but especially fans of electro music.
