Frank Shiner’s style is described as “Blue-Eyed Soul” and it’s an epithet which fits him to a tee in his new album, ‘Lonely Town, Lonely Street’. His latest track, a take on the classic ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’, is a laid back and mellow bluesy number, sung with passion and style.
Born in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania, Frank first found expression for his love of music when cast as Henry Higgins, in a production of ‘My Fair Lady’. He put aside his desires to perform however for the next twenty or so years, concentrating instead on his roles as husband, father, and business man, only returning to singing following the battle with cancer of his wife Suzanne, in 2009. She had encouraged him to sing at a local open mic one night, and the audience’s reaction led him back to performing on a regular basis. From that time he has gone on to win two LA Music Critic Awards, and released his debut album, ‘The Real Me’, in 2015.
Frank worked with A&R veteran, Mitchell Cohen on both of his albums, as well as producer Jay Newland, who suggested he cover ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’, which was the last song recorded for the album. ‘Lonely Town, Lonely Street’, is set for release in May.
The video for ‘Rainy Night In Georgia’, shot in black and white, follows Frank on a press tour, interviews and performances (including one on the Georgia Music Network), and lonely nights – and rainy ones – in hotel rooms in far away towns. Suzanne keeps him company however with messages on his phone to let him know she’s thinking of her. He responds that he’ll be home soon. It’s soothing and lovely, and conveys the deep love the pair have for each other, even when separated by great distances.
