Don’t Blame It On The Rain With Paper Pilots New Track ‘The Weather’

Paper Pilots

With a sound that’s been described as “California Brit-Pop”, and a video that is reminiscent of the work of Godley & Creme, Paper Pilots, out of Silverlake LA are definitely a band with a lot going for them.

Kevin Bronson, from BuzzBands.LA said of Paper Pilots, “If Paper Pilots’ Power-Pop doesn’t put a smile on your face, maybe you’ve been sucking on too many lemons?” For their latest song, ‘The Weather’, however the band has instead taken a slower, more sedate approach. ‘The Weather’ is a 90s flavoured track with a video to match. Filmed in crisp black and white, and directed by Joel Knoernschild, the video is glorious with closeup head shots and curious kaleidoscopic effects.

Paper Pilots are definitely on the rise, having received great support from radio stations KCRW, KCSN, ALT 98.7, and KROQ. Their music has also been featured in HBOs ‘True Blood’ series, finding a place on the Grammy nominated ‘True Blood Vol 3′ soundtrack, with their cover of The Zombies’ ‘She’s Not There’. The band themselves even appeared in the show’s Season 6 finale, where they performed three songs: ‘Lackadaisical’, ‘Romancing Glances’, and ‘Balancing The Backlight’. Not bad going when you consider that all three songs were from the band’s eponymous debut EP.

‘The Weather’ has been produced by Grammy nominated engineer/producer, Luke Tozour, who is best known for his work with Katy Perry, Adam Lambert and Jamie Cullum, and mixed by Grammy winner Paul Hicks, who’s worked with Coldplay and Paul McCartney, among others. It’s a simple music video and is the perfect complement to the song, which is underpinned by rock’n’roll guitars and piano. Justin Bocchieri’s vocals are pure and appealing, and entirely mesmerising.
