80s Sound with a Classic Twist from Some Velvet Morning

Some Velvet Morning 2

Formed in North London in the mid 2000s by brothers Desmond (vocals and guitar) and Gavin Lambert (bass and vocals), and their friend Rob Flanagan on drums, Some Velvet Morning mix their love of 80s artists such as Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears, with the more classic sounds of the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Pink Floyd.

Some Velvet Morning’s debut album, ‘Silence Will Kill You’ saw two singles – ‘Losing My Mind’, and ‘Propoganda’ – gain significant radio play, leading  it to be nominated in 2007 for XFMs album of the year.

In 2010, an early version of their song, ‘How To Start a Revolution’, was used as the backdrop to the international trailer for Matthew Vaughan’s film, ‘Kick-Ass’. This garnered the band further film placements, such as in Irvine Welch’s film, ‘Filth’, and also provided the impetus for a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for Some Velvet Morning’s second album: the band managed to raise a massive £100,000 in only six weeks.

‘Allies’, their second album, saw the band’s introduction to France, where they were given national radio play and headlined festivals. In the UK their music has been featured on Five Live, Talk Sport, and the BBCs Match of the Day.

2016 sees the band take a different tack to what has gone before previously, with them releasing a new track every month. So far, we’ve seen ‘Damocles’, on January 8, which was followed by ‘No Walls’ on 4 February.

Check out ‘Damocles’ and ‘No Walls’ on the band’s Soundcloud. You can buy Some Velvet Morning’s music from their website, their Bandcamp page, iTunes and Amazon. You can also stream it on Spotify.

March 4 sees the band headlining their own show at London’s Roundhouse, in Camden, with support from Tarq Bowen, and Hayley Cannon. Further information and tickets is available here.
