The Essential Weekly Playlist of: A Modern Masquerade

THE ESSENTIAL WEEKLY PLAYLIST

Welcome to The Essential Weekly Playlist! This week we introduce you to Scottish trio, A Modern Masquerade, and ask them what 10 songs could they not live without, and why.

A Modern Masquerade3

We’re an Alternative Rock band from Corstorphine, Edinburgh. We got together in early 2014 from a shared interest in making new music. Our influences include Royal Blood, Biffy Clyro, Arctic Monkeys, Muse, Led Zeppelin and Band Of Skulls. ‘In The Bad Books’ is our debut single and you can listen to it and the B-side ‘Fake Friends And Broken Ends’ on our Soundcloud.

That’s all the music we’ve released so far but there’s more to come soon with the release of our second single ‘Shadowboy’ later in the year. We’ve played a few different venues in Edinburgh: Cabaret Voltaire, The Mash House, The Three Sisters and The Voodoo Rooms. We do like to start mosh pits at our shows and we love the crowd to be as lively as possible.

Our top ten tracks we can’t live without would be:

Royal Blood – Better Strangers – That drum beat intro is so effortlessly cool and sleazy.

Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor – The most fun Arctic Monkeys song and the lyrics are very relatable to any night out.

The Fratellis – Chelsea Dagger – This song was made to jump around like an idiot to.

Biffy Clyro – Victory Over The Sun – Such a well written song with a hell of a kick when the loud guitars come in.

Kanye West – Black Skinhead – So tense and aggressive yet it could still be played at a party.

Led Zeppelin – Wanton Song – What a rock riff should sound like.

Tame Impala – Endors Toi – Very original song with such a spacey, strange mix of instruments that sound crazy and gorgeous at the same time.

We Were Promised Jetpacks – Night Terror – Such a dark and brooding song that perfectly reflects the creepy lyrics.

Catfish And The Bottlemen – Tyrants – This song is how to end an album! Euphoric and anthemic in equal measure.

Ben Howard – Small Things – Haunting, beautiful and shows how an artist can develop their sound to great result.

Arctic Monkeys – R U Mine? – Showed that Arctic Monkeys could still write the mother of all tunes! Great straight forward rock and roll with a cracking guitar solo and brilliant drumming.
