Guy Sebastian – Tonight Again

guy sebastian1It’s been an interesting few weeks for Australian Eurovision fans.  Still reeling from shock at the idea that Australia was actually going to be represented at this year’s Contest in Vienna, they were then presented with the news that Guy Sebastian would be the one doing the representing.

It was a choice met with mixed reviews, with a lot of ESC fans thinking a much more radical choice could have, and should have been made.  Others meanwhile conceded that, although a safe choice, Guy has a substantial following in Europe, and given his credentials (Guy won the initial Australian Idol competition, way back in 2003, and has since gone on to a very successful career, including serving as judge on Australian X Factor), he seemed a viable, if a teeny bit bland, choice.

Opinions are still divided now Guy has revealed his song.  Entitled, “Tonight Again”, it’s an up-tempo soul/pop blend with a hint of Bruno Mars about it.  Sebastian had initially thought to go with a power ballad, to showcase his voice, but found that many ESC songs are mid-tempo pop songs.

Speaking on Monday, he said,

“When it came time to decide on a song, I thought since I had a couple of days off in Australia I would try and write something new. But if I was to record a new song I wanted it to be home-grown and organic with my band in my studio,”

“Truly, we jumped in the studio and let it happen because I wanted to write something fun!  We all have moments you don’t want to end and you wish you could live those moments every day so I wanted to write a song about that feeling. I am sure that is how I am going to feel when I am in Vienna performing.”

What do you think of Guy’s song?  Do you think Australia has picked a winner?
