Katie Kittermaster is a singer songwriter from Kent who has recently been making real waves. This year would have been a very busy one with live dates a plenty in her own right and as a supporting act for some substantiated names in the industry. She toured with a recent interviewee of mine, Lucy Spraggan, and is about to release her new single, a cover of the classic ‘Every Breath You Take’. I was lucky enough to be able to ask her a few questions about what she’s been up to, the single and the sumptuous backdrop of the video to accompany it. Katie’s version of the song comes from a different place to the original and works beautifully.
This Friday, the super talented Liv Austen will release a song that I think is very important to her in so many ways because it is born of this love. ‘Why Don’t You’ is a song that tells us we should be as generous to ourselves as we are with the outside world. It is a song that on first hearing sounds like advice but on repeated listening evolves into a mission statement from the singer to herself.
The music of lotusbliss, comprising brothers Seth, Josh, and Adam Gauton, from Canterbury, Kent, comes at you like a speeding train: unwavering, insistent, determinedly powerful. They grew up making music together, but formed as lotusbliss in 2018 while tossing around band names in a lighthearted conversation. Debut single, ‘Beautiful Monotone’, was released in November last year, while new single, ‘Carpet’, is the second and final release from their EP, ‘A Good Death Is A Beautiful Thing’.
London based band Night Flight are gearing up to release their new ‘White Noise’ EP (out March 27th via CRC Records). They’ve shared the latest taste of the new EP, in their new single ‘ATM’. Leaning a little closer towards the band’s indie rock influences, the track is a cynical examination of the sacrifices made whilst seeking acclaim and success.
John Newman has been one of the major breakthrough artists in the UK in recent years, and with his distinctive voice, the writer and performer of some of the biggest anthems, including his three number one singles, ‘Feel The Love’, ‘Love Me Again’, and ‘Blame’. After a short hiatus, John is back with release of his brand new single, ‘Feelings’.
For those that know the music of Blair Jollands, one of it’s many qualities is the scale, the cinematic approach, the layering of intricacy that make up the whole. And so the chance to see Blair reproduce this in an intimate, stripped back gig is the chance of a lifetime but also holds a little fear. Will the music that feels so beautifully produced, so minutely detailed hold up to the broader brush strokes of something more acoustic?
Jon Grayson is a singer songwriter originally from the Medway Towns region of Kent, but now living in London, whose ‘Stranger’ EP was released late last year. The 4 track record has a pop-rock flavour with touches of reggae in parts.
Catch Jon Grayson performing tonight at The Islington with his full band headline show.
