Many in attendance at Croke Park, Dublin, on Thursday May 17 could well have gone with the lyrics ringing in their ears of The Rolling Stones 1965 classic, ‘The Last Time’. Thankfully however the veteran rockers proved they have more than enough stamina, as they played the first show in their mammoth #NoFilter European tour.
Last month we reviewed the brilliant self-titled debut by Austin based blues singer, Arkansas Dave. The artist, who has drawn comparisons to Chris Stapleton, Black Stone Cherry and Luke Combs, has been a long time coming with this album, having cut his teeth in dive bars and honky tonks in his home state of Arkansas, and in Texas, where he was given his nickname by band mates.
Known by fans and critics as “The Texas Tornado”, “The Malice From Dallas”, “The Young Eric Clapton” and “The Last Great Bluesbreaker Guitarist”, you kinda expect from the get go that Rocky Athas is going to have an arsenal of incredible guitar riffs and hooks up his sleeve. And with his new single, ‘Dictator’, Athas doesn’t disappoint.
With guest appearances by SZA, A$AP Rocky, LunchMoney Lewis, Kendrick Lamar, Future and Julia Michaels, ‘Red Pill Blues’ by Maroon 5 is slick and polished and worth a good few listens. The album is the follow up to 2014s ‘V’, for which the band toured 3 years in support. The album is the first to feature Sam Farrar as a full-time member of the band, although he’s been a touring member since 2012.
