Ziggy Alberts Shows Off His Storytelling Talents On ‘circus’

It takes a certain kind of poetic mind to write a song “about lions and elephants” which is actually about so much more than that. That’s what Ziggy Alberts has done on his new track ‘circus’, from the stellar album ‘searching for freedom’.

It’s the sort of song which makes great use of metaphor and imagery, so much so that the actual meaning of the song almost doesn’t matter at all – instead we are given the space and foundation upon which to lay our own meanings and interpretations. Ziggy is masterful at this, saying that he wanted “listeners’ hearts and imaginations to stay open to how they choose to interpret the story” – something he ensures with his lyrics that give us just a hint of intrigue and suggestion, and then leave the rest up to us.

In the first week of release, ‘searching for freedom’ landed #1 on the AIR Album Chart (Independent Labels) and #5 on the ARIA Top 20 Australian Albums chart. ‘searching for freedom’ has received praise from the likes of American Songwriter, Atwood Magazine and Rolling Stone France.
