SprngBrk – ‘Pride’

Pride makes people do things they never thought they’d be capable of. It makes lovers break up, or even cheat in spite. It causes people to lie, so they don’t look like fools in front of their friends. It can make people even betray the ones they love the most. SprngBrk knows all this, and it serves as the foundation for his new R&B song, ‘Pride’.

SprngBrk has the right voice for dramatic storytelling, while his performances are effortlessly emotive, containing the exact amount of mystery and intrigue. The essential human scale of his narratives is always apparent, along with humour, anger, longing, nostalgia, and seduction – all present in every one of his songs. ‘Pride’ is smooth and scintillating in its confessional songwriting, and although it’s sweet, it’s got a sting in the tail.

The music video for ‘Pride’ starts on the middle of an argument between SprngBrk and his girlfriend. Neither side is prepared to back down, and it’s certain that pride is guiding their actions. She packs her bag and leaves SprngBrk behind, but keeps her regret well-hidden. In keeping with the vintage sound of the song, everything in SprngBrk’s home is a warm and comfortable domestic space, and it’s clearly a difficult one to leave, even after a terrible fight and a dramatic exit. As the characters learn, once you make up your mind to go, it’s not an easy thing to come back.
