Zinga’s latest single, ‘Dance With Me’, has a contemporary feel, despite having originally been written 20 years ago.Â
The track, which was composed in collaboration with musicians from all over the world, is incredibly catchy, and is aimed at not just uplifting its listeners, but also imbuing them with a new energy.
Zinga, who is also known as Shayan, was born in Bangladesh and became interested in music from a very young age, when he performed with his family’s band, also called Zinga, on national TV concerts, and touring across the EU.
The artist chose to continue the legacy of his father, the revolutionary musician Shafaat Ali, who established the first pop band in Bangladesh. Shayan moved to the US as a teenager, and infused his music with an added “zing”, ensuring they were not limited by genre, and thus ensuring their popularity. Zinga the band is still very popular in Bangladesh, while Zinga the artist – Shayan – will release a brand new album in March, recorded in both English and Bangla. The result will surely be a wider audience for both artist and band.
Zinga’s new single, ‘Dance With Me’ combines traditional Tabla and Latin percussion, giving it an east meets west feel. It’s impossible to sit still while listening to the up tempo rhythms. The song comes to life thanks to the contribution of musicians from Italy, Dubai, Mexico, Lithuania, and Berlin, Germany. In these days of lockdown and closed borders, we are able to travel the world just by listening to this song, and we emulate the words of Shayan’s father, Shafaat Ali, who said, “Music is music – it has no boundaries”.
