Bel Holiday Releases Latest EP ‘Mess of a Mind’

New York singer songwriter, Bel Holiday, has released her new EP, ‘Mess Of A Mind’. The three track EP was written over a year, with each track sounding different to the others..

‘Mess Of A Mind’, produced by California’s Thalo, is very much a pandemic EP, recorded and produced remotely. In addition to being very 2020, it also represents a change of sound for Bel from her previous EP, ‘Watermelon’, which utilised elements of hard rock and country, underneath her theatrical jazz-folk writing. For ‘Mess Of A Mind’, Bel is far more stripped back, and experimental. In speaking of the process, she said,

“it has its imperfections – but knowing that my own sound and creative choices are prevalent within it is liberating beyond belief.”

20 year old Bel’s inspirations for this versatile, and ambitious release, include Joni Mitchell, Hiatus Kaiyote, and David Bowie, and she is able  to showcase her eclectic music taste and personality.

Although ‘Watermelon’ was a massive success, with more than 72K streams on Spotify alone so far, Bel Holiday felt distanced from the creative process, and with ‘Mess Of A Mind’ is proudly working out her own musical style, and taken the opportunity to dive deeper into what represents her own aesthetic and sound. The young artist has already performed at such venues as Drom, and Rockwood Music Hall, as well as a performance at the Guggenheim, in New York. In 2019, Bel won the Grand Prize at the West Park International Music Festival, in New York City, and shortly afterwards she was given the opportunity to open for “The Real Catwalk”, featuring many notable models, with an original song focusing on the the topic of self-love.
