Today sees the release of two new singles for Paul Jacks, following hot on the heels of his third solo album, ‘Black Jackal’. The dual single of ‘Foolish Pride’, and ‘Big Lie’, has Jacks teaming up with producer and mixing engineer, Alex Newport. The tracks are a part of Jacks’ singles series between albums, with his next dual release set for February 12.
Jacks channels the best of the 80s British invasion on ‘Foolish Pride’ (he even mentions 1981 in the lyrics), as he takes a step out of himself, making a very personal and quite introspective observation on the pitfalls of Pride.
‘Big Lie’, while slightly more industrial in sound, nonetheless maintains that 80s flavour that we’ve come to know and love from Jacks, and this 80s girl finds it very appealing. The drum machine, synths, and Jacks’ vocals are all super-authentic to the era, and it just goes to show how relevant that style of music remains.
