Mason Embers – ‘Rush’

Although still only 17 years old, singer-songwriter Mason Embers has a wise head on his shoulders. His new single, ‘Rush’, taken from his debut album out this year, is a cleverly written observation on lockdown. Although we *should* have more time on our hands due to our restricted movements, our responsibilities are still the same, and we are often working as hard – if not harder than we were before, and rushing around getting everything done.

Sung from the perspective of a soldier about to be sent into battle, and the challenges faced by this protagonist, the song is sure to resonate with all of us, as we’ve all had a sudden interruption to our routines this past year.

Mason Embers’ voice is the perfect one for storytelling, with its pure sound able to switch between conversational and dramatic when required. His performance on ‘Rush’ is both engaging and communicative, and is a glowing example of a young songwriter whose ideas are burning brightly inside.

As if all this wasn’t enough, Mason Embers is also a natural in front of the camera, with directors Rexway and KKMedia fixing their focus on the singer, who takes control of every scene he’s in, addressing each shot with balance and confidence unusual for his age. This confidence allows us to put our trust in him as well – and we can easily believe that no matter how hectic it all gets around him, he’s going to take his time.
