Six Quick Questions With Dublin Band Wild Youth

Wild Youth are, in their own words, “one of the hottest Irish bands to emerge in recent times” and they’ve certainly established themselves as a name in their homeland, and are making great strides across the globe, with a view to world domination. Their most recent single, ‘Through The Phone’, was released earlier this month, and comes with a pastel-coloured music video, where they do unspeakable things to get creative with paint on an 80s era rotary phone. You can watch it below:

Wild Youth - Through The Phone

We’ve asked six quick questions of Wild Youth, and they very nicely have given us six quick answers.

Thanks for chatting to us! First up, what’s the Wild Youth story?

We are just four guys from Dublin Ireland who love playing music.

There’s been a lot of exciting new music coming out of Ireland in recent years that doesn’t necessarily have that traditional/folky style – do you think it’s a generational thing, or something else?

I think there has always been a lot of music coming from Ireland that isn’t traditional or folk. Don’t get me wrong it’s a huge part of our culture and you will always find amazing trad and folk music in all great Irish bars. That just doesn’t necessarily mean everyone plays it.

Who do you cite as your musical influences, and why? And what about your influences in life?

Mostly Prince, The Beach Boys, Bowie, A lot of disco, Foals, Tame Impala, the list is endless.

Tell us something about your new single. Our new single is called next to you and it’s about doing anything you can to be close to someone you are falling for.

It’s a progression of the sound on our first ep, but in an organic way.

You always have to try to keep it interesting and grow, right?

What is your take on the current state of the music industry? How has covid-19 affected you? How are you coping with the 6 weeks lockdown across Ireland?

I mean being honest it’s super shit. It’s hard. We’ve had what we love, totally taken away from us. But it’s also given us a lot of time to reflect and write lots of new music. We’re Spending time with family and loved ones but we miss shows terribly. and seeing our beautiful fans. So hopefully it comes back soon.

What question do you wish someone would ask you in an interview, but nobody ever does?

Honestly, just anything Fun. Quick fire questions because you can’t over think them.
