Will Jordan – ‘Back To Me’

Directed by Luca Pizzeleo, the clip for RnB singer Will Jordan’s latest single, ‘Back To Me’, is more a short film than a music video.

Jordan plays a pizza delivery driver, who’s faced with problems both internally and externally – he’s chasing his dreams of becoming a musical success – with a lovely woman at his side, who’s been supporting him – but sometimes it all gets too much. He’s confronted by financial insecurity, racial and political inequality, and romantic longing – it’s all unfair. But he knows he’s got the skills, and he puts them to good use to win back the one he loves.

In real life, Tacoma, Washington’s Will Jordan is a respected soul singer, who’s written for the likes of Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, and he’s been praised for his his musical talent. His talent extends to acting as well, as demonstrated in the cinematic clip for ‘Back To Me’. He’s persistent in the face of romantic instability, as we follow him from his workplace to that of his love rival, who is living comfortably, and of course when he finds out that his ex girlfriend is there, it brings up a whole range of feeling. The political flavour of the video emerges as well when he’s confronted by news reports of the unprovoked and senseless killings of black men by the authorities; he’s visibly nervous at the sight of any police officer he sees on the street.

Will Jordan and Luca Pizzoleo manage, without going too over the top, to convey the times we’re in. It’s hard hitting, and emotional, and perfectly executed.
