MAAD – ‘Get By’

‘Get By’, the latest video from RnB singer MAAD, is a showcase for not just her talent, but also her magnetism, screen presence, and the beauty of Los Angeles.

The song is a love letter to LA – MAAD’s adopted home town – and it’s a ray of pure light, with a jazzy, soulful sound somewhat akin to the likes of Lauryn Hill, and Jill Scott. On the one hand it’s a dance tune, but on the other there’s plenty of room for reflecting quietly. MAAD manages to be at once passionate and vulnerable, yet fully in control.

MAAD has collaborated with GT’s Kombucha for ‘Get By’, resulting in a billboard on Sunset Boulevard advertising the product and highlighting the song. The clip, shot by YeBhe and Izzy Hameed, sees MAAD strolling around LA, taking in West Pico Boulevard, and other locations in DTLA; eventually she gets into a party in an abandoned warehouse, where she’s clearly the centre of the show. The tempo changes, everyone else may as well have vanished – and at one point, they actually do – all eyes on MAAD alone. She might be an incomer to LA, but she’s clearly made it her life.
