The Wheelblocks – ‘Aces High’ (feat. Chris Jericho)

COVID-19 has seen a lot of innovation and creativity rise up out of necessity, and one such example is The Wheelblocks, a supergroup comprising various members of already amazing heavy rock bands. They’re not simply together for the duration however: The Wheelblocks have decided this is a good thing, and they’re planning to continue playing together once quarantine is over.

Comprising Fozzy’s Chris Jericho on vocals, Nita Strauss, from Alice Cooper’s band, on guitar, Phil Demmel on guitar (Vio-Lence, and formerly Machinehead), Avenged Sevenfold’s Johnny Christ on bass, and on drums, Josh from Three 6 Mafia.

Working together as creatives who they ordinarily wouldn’t be able to work with, The Wheelblocks have by doing ensured that they’ve enhanced their listeners’ lives with some rocking good tunes. Their new music loses nothing of the fury, rage, and fun that each member is known for, and for their new music video ‘Aces High’, they more than make up for their lack of stage presence. Jericho is flying a fighter jet while singing (of course), Strauss and Demmel put all other axe-wielders to shame with their soaring solos, and Josh V pulls them all together with his world-class percussion. Johnny Christ finishes the video with a literal big splash – bombing into his backyard swimming pool.

‘Aces High’ is a cover of an Iron Maiden classic, is in the hands of The Wheelblocks a reinforcement of the multi-faceted background of each member. While staying true to Iron Maiden’s classic style, they nonetheless put their own twist on the track. It’s good solid rock and a whole lot of fun. Strap yourself in and watch the video below:
