Proper Einstein – ‘Like This’

Proper Einstein, from Swainsboro, Georgia, has learned from the greats, taking his musical inspiration from the sound of the past 40 years or so of popular music. The singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, director, and actor embraces it all as he glides effortlessly between hip-hop, country, and every place in between. Four albums, a quiver of singles, some heavy radio rotation, and some incredible collaborations with the underground’s greatest, his latest creation, the single, ‘Like This’, is a truly fine piece of work.

Proper Einstein – PE for short – rises to the occasion demanded as he samples the classic, ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’ in ‘Like This’. He doesn’t merely allow the song to dictate how to go, but instead he takes the lead, and owns it.

‘Like This’ is like a visitation in a dream, it’s otherworldly, and laid back. PE conveys peace, confidence, and a vulnerability in his lyrics, set against the dreamy backdrop of ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’. It’s the first single from a set which PE calls, ‘YouTube Project’, featuring five tracks with jazzy samples of older songs, with the aim of bringing a certain nostalgia to the listener.

The video, shot in soft focus and black and white, we see Proper Einstein roaming about empty streets, as if on a movie set, while wearing a Fedora and an Oxford suit. He brings to life the Golden Age of Hollywood, and looks like a bona fide part of it.

Speaking of the song and the video, PE says,

“When you think about the Paul Anka song, you think about dancing with a significant other while gazing into their eyes. Throughout the video, life was my significant other, whom I was dancing with. Even though the world is shifting and seems as if it’s falling apart around us, me being alone with life itself is enough for me to be happy and keep me dancing with it while reminiscing about the good times.”
