John Grimes of duo Jedward paid homage to fellow Dubliners, U2, with a stunning acoustic guitar cover of ‘Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own’, the third song on their 11th album, ‘How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb’, which was released in 2004.Â
John and his twin brother Edward earlier this week participated in one of the Black Lives Matter peaceful protests in Los Angeles, and he had previously said he thought the song had an appropriate message for the current times.
The song, which was originally written by Bono on the death of his father, serves in this case as a reminder that no matter the situation, there is always someone to turn to.
John prefaced the song with this message:
“This is a song about giving help. Wanting help, needing help, and not being able to admit it. But together, let’s help each other.”
Recording the song straight to his phone before tweeting, John’s passion is evident in his vocals, as he easily switches between the lower range verses and the higher pitched and falsetto chorus.
John’s talent as both a guitarist and singer only get better with every cover. Jedward, who hope to be doing a UK tour this August, Covid-19 dependent, introduced an acoustic section to their concerts in 2013, something which was immediately popular with fans.

Jedward released their fourth album, ‘Voice Of A Rebel’, last June, and have since been working on songs for their fifth album, while on lockdown in Los Angeles.
