Les Nuby – ‘Never Falling Away’ From New Album ‘Clouded’

‘Clouded’ is the solo debut album for Les Nuby, who started his musical career in the 90s, as the drummer in Birmingham, Alabama indie rock band, Verbena. The album is set for release on July 10 via Cornelius Chapel Records. Latest single, ‘Never Falling Away’, is the anthemic opener for the set.

Nuby is a bit of a legend in his own lifetime, having toured with Scottish band Idlewild, played guitar with Amy Ray, and with Vulture Whale. He currently serves as guitarist and vocalist for Holiday Gunfire. Nuby has served as producer in his Birmingham studio, Ol’ Elegante, for the likes of Will Stewart, Sarah Lee Langford, The Dirty Clergy, and Witch’s Wall – among many others. Basically he’s been around the block and then some, and the only thing missing from his musical resume was a solo album – until now.

Naturally, given his musical pedigree, Nuby had to do it all himself on his premiere offering, and produced, engineered, and played all the instruments on ‘Clouded’, and the ten track album blends Southern sensibilities with a shoe-gaze sound, while at the same time, giving it a Brit-rock vibe. Whatever the genre, whatever the sound, Nuby’s track record goes way before him, so you know you’re going to love it before you even press play.

Latest single, ‘Never Falling Away’, is accompanied by a music video which cleverly shows Nuby as all members of a band – variously pounding the drums, shredding electric guitar, strumming the bass, and of course singing. Listening we’re reminded of Foo Fighters, with shades of The Killers; and that’s testament to the talent of Nuby: he’s been around the block a few times. While on the one hand it’s a shame it’s taken so long for him to release his solo album, on the other hand, he has, and as of July 10, we’ll all be able to hear the full thing, and enjoy.
