West Baltimore Hip Hop artist Cutty Kev has made a name for himself with his tunes which take everyday people and situations, and turn them into rhymes which people can relate to, as well as have a groove. He started well before he was a teen, and by the time Kev was 15, he had managed to get together some home recording gear, making a few mixtapes: ‘Cutty Muzik’, ‘We Are So Swagg Vol 1’, and ‘New Heat’. He shared his CDs at work, and eventually caught the attention of Got Ta Know Enterprizes, who signed him in 2016. Cutty Kev’s latest single, ‘Trap Fashion’, features an absolute killer of a verse from fellow Baltimore native, Tae Wilson. The track is the second release from his GTK debut, ‘2econd Chanze’, and it’s clearly the work of someone aiming for the top.
With the help of GTKs in-house beat master Renzy808 on production, bringing an uptempo bounce to his track, Cutty Kev’s rapid-fire flow tells the tale of a rapper who has gone from being underpaid and ignored, to one of fame and fortune, and to whom everyday life has become one of megabucks and paps. Tae Wilson plays off Cutty’s hook with the ease of someone who’s been with him right from day 1, and the pair of them together celebrate their own hustle, as well as that of anyone else who is making moves to better their own lives. They’re playing the game, and rewriting the rules – ‘Trap Fashion’.
The clip for ‘Trap Fashion’, directed by Jotti Art, sees Cutty and Tae having a blast, hanging out, doing what they do best. They shoot bars off one another just like they were born to it. They’re living the dream and it’s being shown off in this video, with flash cars in the driveways of their stonewalled mansions showing they’ve worked out the formula for making hard work turn into gold.
