Kristin Scott Thomas And Sharon Horgan Join Gareth Malone’s Military Wives ‘Home Chorus’ Special

Gareth Malone will join forces with actors Sharon Horgan and Kristin Scott Thomas and reunites with the Military Wives Choirs for a very special episode of his series, ‘The Great British Home Chorus’, streamed live on YouTube. The ‘Military Wives’ episode will be screened today, Wednesday 22 April, at 5.30pm.

The award-winning actors starred in the recent big-screen film release Military Wives, based on the true story of the international singing phenomenon which now involves over 70 choirs and more than 2,300 members in British military bases across the UK and overseas. A member of the Military Wives Choirs network will assist with the active warm-ups for the ‘Military Wives Special’ with Horgan and Scott Thomas chatting to Gareth about their starring roles in the film.

Gareth and the Military Wives Choirs first appeared together on the BBC Two Series, ‘The Choir: Military Wives’ in 2011, a series which followed the wives’ journey from the rehearsal room to performing their single ‘Wherever You Are’ at London’s Royal Albert Hall for Remembrance Day. The track subsequently became Christmas No.1 after selling over half a million copies. Gareth later consulted on the film ‘Military Wives’, released in March 2020.

The Great British Home Chorus has so far seen over 1.30 million views with over 133,000 people from around the world registering their interest in the singing programme via the dedicated Decca Records website.

Speaking from his home studio, Gareth says,

“I’m delighted to be joined by the Military Wives Choirs for a special sing-a-long as part of ‘The Great British Home Chorus’ series. No one knows better the importance of singing through adversity, and what it can do for the mind, body and spirit, than these inspiring women. To have the wonderful actors Sharon Horgan and Kristin Scott Thomas along for this very special episode is fantastic and I look forward to catching up!”

Gareth has so far been joined by special guests including presenter and entertainer Mel Giedroyc (GBBO, Company, Mel & Sue), vocal coach and choirleader Mark De-Lisser and Hamilton West End’s Musical Director Richard Beadle.

Directed by Peter Cattaneo (‘The Full Monty’), the all-star cast feature film Military Wives is the inspirational story of friendship, love, and support on the home front.  A group of women come together as their partners serve in Afghanistan. Together they form the very first Military Wives Choir, helping each other through some of life’s most difficult moments and becoming a media sensation and global singing movement in the process.

The soundtrack, released last month on Decca Records, features choral favourites from the real-life Military Wives Choirs and new tracks by the on-screen cast, celebrating the shared experiences of the women whose lives were changed forever by conflict. Members join Gareth from their homes across the country to contribute to his Great British Home Chorus series, raising awareness of the impotance of joining together in song in challenging circumstances.
