‘The Dream Catcher’, by Juán Tigre, is a fast-paced, frenetically rhythmed track that jumps straight out of the gate and doesn’t stop until it reaches the end.
Somewhat cacophonic, yet at the same time very memorable, ‘The Dream Catcher’ feels as though the dreams that have been caught are ones you wouldn’t like to keep. There’s jazz elements, funk, pop, rock, and a pounding cymbal that won’t let up. Additionally, the distorted guitars, and Juán Tigre’s vocals float in and out, held in place only by a repeated melody line that’s sounds like it’s been borrowed from the theme tune of a 70s cop show. All things considered – I like it a lot.
Juán Tigre is the brainchild of John Maestas, an alt-rock guitarist and vocalist, who additionally is able to speak two languages. His sound takes its inspiration from the high desert region of New Mexico; it’s sonically expansive and fills not just your head but your entire being.
Based in New Orleans, Maestas is well known in his local area for his guitar and production talents, and he formed Juán Tigre in 2017, as a means by which to share his own music.
