twocolors x The Dead Daisies – ‘Mexico’

twocolors came together in 2015, when Pierro and Emil met at a party in Berlin. Writing and producing together, the pair have a unique style, mixing electronica and pop, which sees their individual talents coming together to create exciting and powerful music. Their previous single, ‘Follow You’, which featured Muringa, has so far exceeded 13 million Spotify streams, and has seen more than 3.4 million views on YouTube.

Their latest venture sees them come together with The Dead Daisies, who are no strangers to regular readers of Essentially Pop. The Australian-American band are the true blue champions of hard rock and roll, with their roster reading like the Hall Of Fame – currently featuring members of the bands such as Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy, Mötley Crüe, Dio, Deep Purple, and more.

It’s not the first time twocolors have worked with The Dead Daisies, having previously collaborated on the single, ‘Make It Louder’, and on ‘Mexico’, the combination of the rough voice on top of a dance track, with the added electronic touch and 80s vibe ensures that what might have merely been a good song, becomes a great song, and a sure fire festival-flavoured hit.

Essentially a lyric video, the clip for ‘Mexico’ pairs flashing lights with a melodic house beat, imitating the passion of the bodies featured. The video is made up of stills and barely moving video scenes, with the play of light and dark conveying an almost voyeuristic vibe to the piece. The video is a dichotomy – intimate, yet hugely public; quietly personal, yet massively anthemic. Indeed, this is metaphor for the combination of EDM and heavy rock – and like the song itself, it just works.
