Jae Mansa and Young Marco find their inspiration wherever they are, in their surroundings, grinding it hard in their local area of North Carolina. Jae Mansa is a duo of cousins comprising Daron “Jae” Johnson and Brandon “B” Boone, and they’ve worked together for a while now. We’ve covered their previous releases this year, and we’re happy to bring you yet another, their new single, ‘Gryndin’.
‘Gryndin’ has a hypnotic trap beat looping around at just the right pace to keep us enthralled, the cousins rapping about what they know, keeping up the pace in such a way that it looks easy to do – but we know it’s not. Music glues together their wildly different, yet dramatically complementary styles, and they leave us wanting more.
Thankfully, this isn’t the end, as ‘Gryndin’ is just the first track from their forthcoming EP, ‘Relationships & Money’, set for release this Friday, December 6. ‘Gryndin’, and the upcoming EP, are the first forays into their undoubted rise to the top of the heap, where their humility along with their talent and hard work should see them in good stead.
The video for ‘Gryndin’ sees the pair in a classic hip hop performance, commanding the view of the camera, swaggering and staring down the lens, while spitting out their rhymes with all the confidence of a pair twice their age. Young Marco turns the duo into a trio, as they light up a sparse hang out, which has been graffitied from ceiling to floor. Clocks signify money, while dancers in the clip are a hint at what is yet to come.
