Star-Studded Evening Of Festive Music And Merriment

Harry Shearer & Judith Owen Present…

CHRISTMAS WITHOUT TEARS – Sunday 1 December 2019

Husband-and-wife duo Harry Shearer & Judith Owen will return to Marylebone for their annual star-studded evening of festive music and merriment. This year they will be joined by veritable feast of special guests including Harry Enfield, Rick Wakeman, Graham Gouldman, ‘Woman 2 Woman’ (featuring Judie Tzuke, Beverley Craven, Julia Fordham), Shaun Keaveny, Clinton Baptiste, Miss Hope Springs, Show Strings (featuring Lizzie Ball, Meghan Cassidy, Gabriella Swallow and Shlomy Dobrinsky), magician & card master Simon Evans, the dog of Xmas, and many more surprises to come.

‘Flog It’ and ‘Antiques Roadshow’ TV presenter Adam Partridge will take the role of charity auctioneer.

The house band:  Jamie Safir (piano), Loz Garratt (bass) and Pedro Segundo (drums).

An antidote to the most stressful of seasons, the evening (now in its 14th year) includes both invited performers and surprise guests who drop into Harry and Judith’s onstage living room and share a song or a joke to bring the holiday spirit to all. Comics, magicians, and even circus acts have been welcome additions, adding the perfect mix that makes this a true variety show.

As Harry Shearer tells it, “the show started as a party in our home to try to comfort Judith, a Welsh woman prone to melancholia, who could not stand that the fact that Christmas in Southern California was about 78 degrees and sunny.” What began as a humble holiday house party to chase away Judith’s yuletide blues became a charity event and performance in 2005 when they staged it to aid the people of New Orleans after Katrina.

The 2018 London Christmas Without Tears show raised £10,000 for the West London Mission. In years past ‘Christmas Without Tears’ has welcomed Rob Brydon, Weird Al Yankovic, Tim Minchin, Jane Lynch, Richard Thompson, Donald Fagen, Catherine O’Hara, Alfie Boe, Maureen Lipman, Rob Brydon, Julia Fordham, Alan Cumming, Claire Martin, Stephen Merchant and Christopher Guest.
