Before Christmas is the latest release by British musician-come-actor Josh Whitehouse for the Netflix film, ‘The Knight Before Christmas‘.
Written from the perspective of Whitehouse’s character within the film, Sir Cole, ‘Before Christmas’ shares the moment in which he begins to fall in love with co-star Vanessa Hudgens’ character, Brooke.
The song first came about when Whitehouse met with the film’s director, Monika Mitchell, two weeks prior to filming. Having discovered that both Whitehouse and Hudgens were singers, they saw a great opportunity to include an original soundtrack alongside the film.
Whitehouse then set to work writing and recording parts for guitar, bass, keys, percussion and more, and experimented with both solo and duet versions of the track before sending off the first demo. Soon after, he called in his friend and fellow High Cross Society band member, Fiachra Mac Oireachtai, to bring extra flare to his previous recording. Layering together sounds of Christmas bells, percussion elements and backing vocals, the track was quickly brought to a new level.
With production from John Hendicott, and a final addition of a live string section by Dominic Johnson, the end result is a classic tune that is sure to get you in the festive spirit!
Set in Ohio during the holiday season, ‘The Knight Before Christmas’ tells the story of the medieval knight Sir Cole (Josh Whitehouse) who finds himself transported into the present-day by a sorceress. Here he befriends Brooke (Vanessa Hudgens), who helps him navigate the modern world as he tries to discover how to fulfil his mysterious one true quest — the only act that will return him home.
Besides ‘The Knight Before Christmas’, Josh Whitehouse has had experience modelling in campaigns with Jack Wills, working as the face of Mr Burberry, a starring role in Northern Soul (amongst other TV roles including Poldark), and a career in music with his bands More Like Trees, and High Cross Society.
More Like Trees’ brand-new album, ‘Don’t Disturb The Garden’ will be released in January 2020.
