Daud Aur Yahudy’s New Single ‘Ahab’ Is A Silky Smooth Release With A Poetic Heart And A Strong Message We Can All Get Behind

The first thing you notice about Daud Aur Yahudy’s song, ‘Ahab’, is the laid-back, mellow tone of his vocals. Like a contemporary Lighthouse Family, or even a legendary Motown artist, the smooth voice of Yahudy emanates with a blissful tranquillity that belies the serious nature of the song.

A singer, songwriter, and poet from South Florida, Yahudy found his way into music at a very young age, but didn’t realise his true passion for the art until later in life. He released his debut album, ‘Soulful Life Within’, in 2018, the five tracks encompassing upbeat and encouraging themes of life, love, and faith.

Daud followed this with the EP, ‘Home Bound’, which serves as a prelude to his future upcoming projects.

Daud’s sound centres on ambient instrumentation, while the lyrics are more poetry than anything else. Although it would be easy to label his style as RnB, there is so much more to it; ‘Ahab’ has a tropical theme to the instrumentals, which when paired with Daud’s warm, caramel sweet vocals, sends the listener off on a voyage of bliss. Close your eyes to listen, and you’ll hear what I mean!

Yahudy’s goal with his songs is to bring back true music and positive messages, and he seeks to address real life situations. He seeks to esteem Yahuah (God) through the originality and transparency of his lyrics, which deal with love, healing, and making the world a better place. The spoken section of the song, in the third quarter, outlines his purpose, to bring love and honour to Yahuah.

The title ‘Ahab’ refers to the Hebrew word for Love or Affection. The lyrics reflect this:

The strength revealed in the house / It is ahab / It is love, it is love / Love Yahuah with all you’re your heart, with all your Soul, with all your being / Love, Love, Love his commands.

This harks back to The Bible, in Mark Chapter 12, Verses 28-31,

28 One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” (NIV)

Yahudy says in order to change the world, we need to go back to the grassroots of it all. We need to love; we need to love God, and to love one another. I think that’s something we can all get behind.
